Study will take closer look at making UPIKE a state school

Posted: Fri 7:39 PM, Jan 27, 2012

A new study is in the works to take a closer look at making the University of Pikeville a state school.

The study will take a closer look at what making UPIKE a publicly funded school will mean for the state.

It will also look at how other state institutions would be affected and any additional resources that will be needed.

UPIKE President Paul Patton is traveling the region to discuss his goal of improving college-going rates.

“There's complicated issues yet to address but I think we can dramatically improve the education level of the area 20 years from now and that’s where we have to look.” UPIKE President Paul Patton said.

The study will be completed by March 15.
