PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - A substance abuse forum was held in Prestonsburg on Monday night which featured a bipartisan panel of top state officials.
Some said drug pushers are changing tactics in response to successful new anti-drug initiatives. The event was put together by Recovery Kentucky and Operation UNITE so officials could discuss what other, positive changes they could make in the war on drugs.
"We have got more people dying of prescription drug overdoses than car wrecks and it doesn't seem to me the public is alarmed enough about the problem," said Rep. Hal Rogers(R) 5th District.
"So this is an effort to try to educate the public on this really difficult dangerous problem the whole country has."
Many of the questions from the public concerned House Bill 1 and how it could be tweaked to best combat the issue. Officials said $175,000 was raised from ticket sales and donations.
