With temperatures soaring into the nineties, the first of June is feeling more like the first of August. Folks around the regions are already figuring out ways to beat the heat.

There's only one way to find some relief.

"Staying under the water," said Dylan Mills.

For folks at the Barbourville Water Park, that is exactly what they did.

"The sooner it gets hot, the hotter the summer's going to get. It just gets hotter," said Kenny Hutton of Corbin.

"We are coming out of a rainy season and right to a hot season. People are working in their gardens," said Susan Liford, with the Knox County Health Department.

Health officials said folks need to be careful.

You may be getting too hot and not realizing it. That's why officials said you should drink plenty of water and stay cool as best as your can.

"No matter how much you get your air conditioning running, as hot as it is, just going to heat up even more," said Hutton.

If you find yourself feeling faint or dizzy in this heat, experts say it's best to stop and cool off.

"It can be a fatal emergency," said Liford.

Cities across the southeast were expected to reach record highs Wednesday.
