PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Graduates walked across the stage this weekend at the University of Pikeville's commencement ceremony.
Saturday morning the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine recognized 76 graduates.
U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina M. Benjamin was the key note speaker and spoke to the graduates about the world's need for caring and compassionate physicians.
Dr. Benjamin says the trip to Pikeville was very important to her, "I was a rural physician and solo practice for 23 years, so it is important to me to make sure we don't just go to inner cities. Inner cities are great but we need to not forget about the rural areas that need physicians and schools like this, so it was really important that I came here."
Dr. Benjamin also received an honorary degree from the college.
