GRAY, Ky. (WYMT) - Deputies in Knox County have arrested a man in connection with a burglary of a business in Knox County.
It happened at the Copes Market at the intersection of KY830 and KY1232 in the Gray/Corbin community.
Deputies were able to recover nearly all of the stolen items from the burglary.
Police have arrested Kevin R Lawson in connection with the burglary. Lawson is charged with Burglary 1st degree and Criminal Mischief 1st degree.
The sheriff's office reports that Lawson had worn gloves during the burglary which were located in a neighbor's yard. They also found a selfie on Lawson's phone that he had taken of himself wearing the mask prior to the burglary.
Knox County Sheriff's Deputies say a man broke into Cope's Country Store overnight in Gray and got away with guns and cash. The store's surveillance system caught it on tape.
Deputies are asking for the public's help to identify the burglar.
Surveillance video from the Cope's Country Store in Gray shows a man wearing a mask using a crowbar to get inside the store in the early morning hours on Thursday.
"I'm sure it is planned," said Sheriff John Pickard.
The store owner says he got there around four in the morning and discovered the break-in.
"It's not really a surprise with the minor crime and break-ins going on around here, really wasn't that surprised," said Matthew Cope, store owner.
Deputies say once inside, the burglar took guns, cigarettes, and money.
The store owner says a theft like this hurts business.
"Anytime they take items as valuable as guns, it does put a hurt on the profit," said Cope.
The surveillance video shows the burglar carrying out a bag full of guns.
"It's a concern so hopefully we can come up with who done this.," said Sheriff Pickard.
The Sheriff asks anyone with information to contact them. He says any kind of information will help.
The Copes would like to get their items back too.
"Any leads would be helpful. Any leads that they can give to the Sheriff's Department would help me out a whole lot," said Cope.
Anyone with information should call the Knox County Sheriff's Department at 606-546-3181 or dispatch at 606-546-3441.
