Suspect in former mayor's death pleads not guilty

HARLAN, Ky. (WYMT) - The man police say murdered former Evarts Mayor Ronny King pleaded not guilty.

A grand jury indicted Shelby Shell on eight charges, including murder, robbery, kidnapping, and tampering with evidence.

Police say Shell shot King in his home and set it on fire in February.

The judge set a pre-trial conference for August 15th.

EVARTS, Ky. (WYMT) - A man accused of killing a former mayor now faces an eight count indictment.

Police say in February, 29-year-old Shelby Shell shot and killed Ronny King at his home in Evarts and then set it on fire.

Shell told us from jail he is innocent, but members of King's family say they are convinced Shell is the killer.

The charges against Shell include murder, robbery, kidnapping, and arson.

He's expected to be arraigned May 16th.
