LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WYMT/WSAZ) -- An elderly man tied up and killed, his car stolen and later turning up in a parking lot in Man, W.Va. -- now, police suspect the man behind it all might still be in the area.

"John Dempsey -- everybody up here knows John Dempsey. Don't they? Everybody knows him, you know," said Bobby York, who said he's known Dempsey for at least 20 years.

Dempsey is suspected in the murder of 88-year-old Grover Morrison. But some people who know Dempsey suspect otherwise.

"I've never known him to get into trouble for anything," said Amy Ellison, who also knows Dempsey.

Morrison's body was found Tuesday inside his home along Stratton Street in Logan.

"I don't see John Dempsey doing that -- I'll be honest with you, I really don't see him doing that," York said. "I've never known of him fighting all the time and starting trouble and being in jail all the time."

Police, however, have a different view of Dempsey.

"He considered armed and dangerous," West Virginia State Police Trooper Silas Belt said. "He has made numerous threats -- everybody who comes in contact with him is to use caution and to be safe."

And right now, police are doing anything to catch up with their prime suspect.
