Witnesses said the sky all of a sudden turned dark! That's when they saw what appeared to be a funnel cloud in Bell County. And our cameras captured it all.
Most folks in Middlesboro Wednesday night said they are glad this storm appeared to be a close call.
Video we shot earlier in the evening shows clouds that appear to be rotating, but there is no confirmation that it was a funnel cloud.
Once those clouds passed by, torrential rain started falling in Middlesboro.
It rained so fast that part of Cumberland Avenue in Downtown Middlesboro had to be closed. Part of Highway 25-E was also flooded.
Folks said they got worried.
"The sky started getting dark really quick. Back over the mall toward Wal-Mart, behind Wal-Mart. It looked like it was touching the ground," said Brandi Miracle, a Middlesboro resident.
We're told employees at Wal-Mart made everyone go to a safe place until after the storm had passed.
We spoke with both the Middlesboro Mayor and the Bell County Judge-Executive Wednesday evening. Both tell us there are no significant reports of damage as of yet.
