County officials say the drug has become a huge problem recently.
They say it’s a bigger problem among young people.
On Thursday, Whitley County banned synthetic marijuana.
Corbin has followed suit and just adding to the growing list of places in our region trying to rid their communities of cannabanoids.
Corbin city officials said synthetic marijuana was becoming an increasingly growing problem in the community.
“It's a first cousin of meth it's a killer and we want to look forward to keeping our kids brain cells intact and as well as their lives,” Joe White said.
Labels say the substance is not supposed to be consumed.. But that doesn't stop everyone-- and officials say it is becoming a serious issue in the county schools.
While the ordinances passed in the city of Corbin and Whitley County will help, the Corbin mayor says it will take the co-operation of surrounding counties to alleviate the problem in the region.
Now that this ordinance has passed in the city of Corbin they'll work with local law enforcement on penalties to fit this new crime.
Convenience stores carrying synthetic marijuana will be given a few days grace period to remove the product from their shelves.
