Tax increase could be coming on Somerset hotels

SOMERSET, Ky. (WYMT)- Folks lodging at hotels within the corporate limits of Somerset will be paying a little more in transient taxes.

The Commonwealth Journal reports the city council approved a second reading of an ordinance that will establish a Somerset tourist and travel commission.

The ordinance levies a three percent transient room tax to fund operations of the all-volunteer commission. Another one percent tax would go to the center for rural development.
