KNOXVILLE, TN (WYMT) - A teacher at Grace Christian Acadamy in Knoxville is lacing up his shoes, but it's about more than just exercise.
His 50-mile mission is all to help one of his students suffering from lymphoma.
"I promised I would walk 50 miles non-stop to raise money for Anna Hamilton to raise money for Anna Hamilton who's been diagnosed with lymphoma. We want to help her out with our prayers and also with our gifts," Brad Zockoll said.
He's walking across a track - 250 laps to be exact. With every step - students are taking turns making sure Zockoll doesn't walk alone.
“So he has people to talk with so he doesn't get lonely and to boost up his morale so he can keep going,” Nick Rudel said.
“I'm exhausted I didn't think 53 years would weigh on me,” Zockoll said.
But Zockoll says that it is all worth it, “This pain will be over in a couple of days but Anna's pain is not going to be over.”
Anna Hamilton wasn’t able to make it out to the track. She is going through chemo therapy but her friends and teacher's say they're sending their love and support her way.
One news source reports that Zockoll walked the last 10 miles barefoot.
