ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A 13-year old is in the hospital after being hit by a car at a bus stop.

The accident happened Wednesday morning on KY 519 in Rowan County, south of Morehead.

Investigators tell WKYT that the bus was heading into Morehead when 13-year old Christopher Olvera was getting onto the bus, and was hit by Scottie Ingle, 30, of Morehead. Police say Ingle was trying to pass the stopped bus in his Toyota Corolla when the collision happened. We're told Ingle didn't see Olvera trying to get on the bus.

Olvera was airlifted to UK hospital, where we're told he will undergo surgery on his leg. Officials say the child was stable when he left the scene.

Criminal charges are pending at this time. Witnesses at the scene say the bus had the stop sign out and its lights flashing.
