PINEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Testimony continued Friday in the Bell County murder trial.

Deborah Partin, Brian Hatfield, and Candy Maiden are accused of killing 91-year-old William Taylor in 2008.

Friday, some of their friends took the stand.

Shanna Mason said she knew William Taylor in 2008.

Her brother, Jeremiah Evans, pleaded guilty in connection with William Taylor's murder. She also knows the three other defendants.

She testified that in 2008, she asked Candy Maiden what happened to Taylor.

"She said it wasn't supposed to happen the way it did," Mason testified.

She claims Maiden stole money from Taylor that night.

Maiden's attorneys argued Mason told police this to get back at Candy Maiden because Maiden gave police a statement against her fiance in a different crime.

Prosecutors say Mason also talked to Partin about Taylor.

Commonwealth's Attorney Karen Greene Blondell asked, "Did Debbie Partin tell you what role she had?"
"She said she cut the phone lines," answered Mason.

Partin's attorneys argued she never told police this until months later.

Don Baker, a friend of Brian Hatfield's, also took the stand. Several years ago, in a recorded police interview, he said Hatfield confessed to him he beat Taylor. However, on the stand Friday, Baker said he made it up.

Blondell asked, "Did you tell Det. Tyson Lawson Brian Hatfield said he just hit him too hard?"
"I don't remember him saying that," answered Baker.

He claims he was a meth addict and told police what they wanted to hear in the interview.

"The state of mind I was in when I talked to him, I might have told him anything," said Baker.

The medical examiner who performed the autopsy on Taylor also testified. She said Taylor's skull was broken in several places and he had brain swelling. She said he died from the severe head injuries.

The trial is on recess until Monday, April 29th. The Judge is attending a conference next week.
