The Mansion: the new VIP way to watch the Derby

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The changes at the home of the Kentucky Derby over the last decade are the most significant construction since the signature twin spires at Churchill Downs were erected more than 100 years ago.

There are new luxury boxes. The clubhouse has been replaced. Stadium lighting has been added for night races and for this year's there is a new VIP section known as The Mansion for people willing to pay up to $12,500 for a ticket to the Kentucky Derby.

But the track is still a 1-mile dirt oval. The first leg of the Triple Crown will be run at Churchill Downs on Saturday.

Vice President John Asher says the upgrades have been the most significant construction at Churchill Downs since 1895.
