London, Ky. (WYMT)- When the owners of M&M Pawn Shop opened their doors Monday, it was only a typical day for a moment, then the moment was gone.

"The first thing I noticed is that, that back back door, which is always closed, was open and I could see sunlight shining through the wall," described Michael Taylor, who co-owns the business with his brother-in-law. "Within about a minute we knew that we had a bad problem."

Taylor, a former Kentucky State Trooper, said all of the signs pointed to a heist and he believes there was more than one person behind it.

"They cut the proper lines outside of the building, they cut security lines on the inside the building once they made entry," he said.

Taylor pointed to the empty store showcases, that are typically filled with gold and silver jewelry, "I was thinking we've lost some items, but maybe it's something that we'll recover from and not be too severe. But as we found further and got to the safe room we knew it had been very, very extreme."

Inside that room, they found their safe had been cut open ,and every piece of jewelry, cash, and coin was taken. London Police estimate the loss to be somewhere around $100,000, yet every gun was left behind in the store.

"With the firearms, obviously, there is serial numbers, (and) there's a huge paper trail. Obviously these folks were looking for items that were quick and easy to resale without a lot of traceability," said Taylor.

The owners said they weren't open on Sunday because pawn shops in Kentucky aren't allowed to be open on Sunday, so that lead Taylor and others to believe this heist was extremely well planned.

"You have burglaries and thefts, but this is a little bit over-the-top. It seems a little bit advanced, if you will, for Southeast Kentucky."

Even more, the thieves even covered their tracks by taking the DVR that records the camera feeds, erasing their existence from the break in, leaving only damaged items and damaged dreams behind.

The store is offering a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspects. You can call the London Police Department or the M&M Pawn Shop to report any tips.
