The wind storm and heavy rain that rolled through the mountains Friday night has left thousands in the dark on some of the hottest days seen here in a long time.

As of 11am Saturday morning, more than 13,000 people in Pike County, more than 5,300 in Lawrence County, more than 3,000 in both Martin and Floyd County and hundreds in Johnson, Magoffin and Knott County.

The cooling centers set up in the Mouthcard and Phelps areas are currently without power and officials are asking people to avoid them until power is restored.

Pike County officials are also planning on bringing a generator to power the Feds Creek Center once power is restored to the Sidney/Canada area.

Temperatures are once again forecast to get close to 100 degrees and above Saturday afternoon.
