Three people were taken to jail early Friday morning in Laurel County after police say one of them tried to run over two officers at a safety checkpoint.
Jonathan Garland is facing numerous charges after police say he ran through the checkpoint on Kentucky 770 near Corbin.
Two vehicle enforcement officers reportedly had to jump out of the path of Garland's truck which then led them on a chase onto Kentucky 312 then onto 552 and it finally ended when police say Garland slammed into a fence and a mailbox.
“The situation was very dangerous. Officers reached speeds of 90 miles per hour, this offender was driving northbound in a southbound lane, driving recklessly. It went on for several miles,” Officer Steven Douglas said.
Police say they had to chase Garland on foot before he was finally arrested.
Two passengers in his truck, Clover Salyer and Eddie Davis, are also facing charges.
