WASHINGTON, Ky (WYMT) - Time is running out for lawmakers to reach a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff.
If President Obama and congress can not come to an agreement then essentially everyone's taxes go up considerably according to Congressman Hal Rogers and spending programs will be cut.
With only three days until the new year, many are losing hope that a comprise will be reached.
Congressman Rogers says he is hopeful, though.
"I'm wondering whether the president really wants us to reach an understanding, a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff. It seems like the way he is acting he really doesn't want us to reach a deal, and I don't know why," said Congressman Rogers.
President Obama and congressional leaders met this afternoon. There is no word on what happened at that meeting.
