Tourism officials expect busy weekend on Lake Cumberland

Tourism folks are excited about the numbers of people who have visited Pulaski County, and notably Lake Cumberland, this year.

“Traffic was up 199,000 over the previous year. That’s excellent,” said Carolyn Mounce with the Somerset/Pulaski County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.

Christi Heath brought her family from Lexington down with both plans for fun, and staying cool, in the 90 plus degree days. She’s among the many who pulled in Friday afternoon at Lee’s Ford Marina.

“Either in the water, lots of water to drink or just to stay in the boat with the air conditioning on,” said Heath.

“Everybody is friendly down here, everyone is down here just to have a good time, just a great place to be,” said December Harper of Eaton, Ohio.

Which is good news for the many businesses, hoping the extra lake traffic gives their local economy a much needed boost.

“I think the heat brings people out, and they love our lake,” said Mounce.

Tourism officials say the holiday weekend will cap a successful summer, but the fall season is expected to be good also because the tree lined lake is known to be very picturesque in the autumn months.
