Snow showers are expected on and off Monday through Tuesday. Total snowfall over the course of both days will add up between a trace to 2". 1" to 3" is possible along the higher elevations of the VA border. Slick spots are possible on untreated roads. While significant snow is not expected, we have issued a Severe Weather Alert Day to keep you informed on possible negative impacts to travel through Tuesday afternoon.
One woman is dead and a man is seriously injured following an accident involving a train in Harlan County.
Knox County Detention Center officials say a CSX train was traveling toward Evarts when it hit two people who were on the tracks.
It happened in front of the detention center on Highway 38.
Officials say the woman died on impact, but the man had to be removed from underneath the train.
Jail staff, sheriff's department officials and jail inmates on work release assisted at the scene.
A medical helicopter was called, but was delayed due to weather.
The man was treated by EMT's and eventually flown to the hospital.
His condition is not known.
