UK Healthcare is hosting a series of seminars and stressing the importance of having certified trauma centers here in rural Kentucky.
The Chair of the Kentucky Trauma Advisory Committee Andrew Bernard, says the likelihood of dying from a trauma related injury in a rural area is fifteen times more likely than it is in a city. Bernard says a number of factors play into this scary stat.
"It is related to roads, hillsides, places where people can get trapped, and the time it takes EMS to get there,” Andrew Bernard said.
People from all around the area attended the seminar on Friday, expressing their interest in creating that network.
Bernard says he sees several trauma centers popping up in the next couple years.
UK Healthcare will host four more seminars.
