Two Eastern Kentucky men involved in deadly train derailment

ST. CHARLES, Va. (WYMT) - A Harlan County man is dead and a Perry County man is injured following a train derailment in Lee County, Virginia.

It happened just before midnight Sunday night at Turner Siding near the intersection of Route 635 and 636 in St. Charles.

Officers say a CSX train, loaded with coal, derailed and landed on a van being used to taxi employees back and forth between train destinations.

The driver of the van, 31 year old Jamie Collins of Baxter, was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

A passenger in the van, 33 year old Jason Williams of Viper was flown to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.

The van is owned by J&K Transportation.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
