Two children rescued from alleged meth house

HUEYSVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Two small children were rescued Wednesday night from a house police say was contaminated with needles, meth and the materials to make it.

State police received an anonymous tip Wednesday night that people were making and using methamphetamine inside the home in the Hueysville community of Floyd County.

"We ended up discovering HCl generators, shake-and-bake bottles along with all the precursors to make methamphetamine," said Sergeant Ronald Peppi of K.S.P. Post 9 in Pikeville.

27-year-old Brandon Arnett, 29-year-old Ryan Lykins, and 32-year-old Angela Shepherd were all taken into custody. Two young children, one age 4 and the other less than 6 months old, were also found in the trailer. Police say the trailer was littered with needles, many of them used.

"On the floor, on the counters, on the couches. Most of them were uncapped. You couldn't hardly walk through the residence without stepping on those needles and those children were walking around inside that trailer," said Peppi.

Neighbors we talked to said they did not want to appear on camera, but they did tell us that they had long suspected the people who lived in the trailer were using drugs.

The children were taken to Saint Joseph Hospital in Martin for decontamination and a checkup. Police say kids and meth are a dangerous combination.

"It's very dangerous, especially mostly with these young children in this house, and it's extremely dangerous the chemicals that they use," Peppi said.

Police say the children are staying with a relative for the time being, but social services is investigating.

All three suspects are charged with possessing and manufacturing meth. Shepherd and Lykins, the children's parents, also face charges of endangering the welfare of a minor.
