HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - 6-13-14

Friends and family are mourning the loss of two people from Harlan County.

Stephanie Fultz, 30, and Rostin "Trey" Bray, III, 37, died during a crash Thursday afternoon.

It happened along KY-3001 in the Cawood community.

Friends say Fultz was on her way to work at Papa Johns in Harlan but she never made it.

"She was far and beyond an excellent worker. She will be missed greatly," said Chelca Lewis, Papa Johns Manager.

Friends say Fultz was giving her friend Rostin "Trey" Bray a ride to town. Police say she lost control in a curve, crossed the center line, hit two parked trucks, and then slammed into the old Hensley Furniture building.

"It sounded like a stick of dynamite went off or something. It was loud," said Raymond Hensley.

Hensley says he and others tried to help them in the car but could not.

"Real bad, real bad. They were young people too," said Hensley.

Police say both died at the hospital.

"Everyone here was basically in shock. I don't think it's really hit anybody until today," said Lewis at Papa Johns.

State police are still investigating what caused Fultz to lose control and slam into the building.

"We're still continuing our investigation but at that time, the roadway was slick from rain," said Captain P. J. Burnett, Kentucky State Police.

Fultz leaves behind five young children. Bray leaves behind three children.

"My heart goes out to the family. It was a sad thing," said Hensley.

Friends say both Fultz and Bray are gone but never forgotten.

Police say Fultz was wearing a seat belt. Bray was not.

Henson and Rich Funeral Home in Harlan is handling the arrangements for both.
