A deadly ATV accident leaves a toddler dead, and police say could have been avoided.

The accident happened in Jenkins Sunday night.

Robert Sturgill, the toddler's father, is now in jail facing manslaughter, wanton endangerment and DUI charges.

Police suspect Robert Sturgill was drunk when he took three juveniles on an ATV that flipped backwards while going up a steep hill. Two of them were toddlers.

"All these decision that came to pass created a situation in which a child lost it's life," said Jenkins' Police Chief Allen Bormes.

Two-year-old Alicia Sturgill was riding in front of her father when police say the weight started shifting on the ATV ultimately ending the life of a little girl.

"She was always going and always playing and always having fun, and that's what a two year old should be doing," said Alicia's Aunt Jessica Shelby.

Her aunt describes Alicia as a spunky two-year-old who will be missed all that knew her.

"She was a beautiful little girl. Her life was cut short for reasons we may never understand," said Shelby.

After an incident many say should have never happened, and one that police hope others will learn from.

Robert Sturgill pleaded not guilty Monday.

He is being held at the Letcher County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.

Police say Sturgill has previously had his license suspended for DUI.
