Two people are now charged in connection with a Floyd County murder.
The body of Brian Jacob Gayheart was found in the Big Sandy River in Boyd County earlier this month.
Police say he was killed in Floyd County.
Prestonsburg Police arrested Benjamin Meek and his wife Kaitlyn Crum Meek.
The couple faces a list of charges including murder against Benjamin Meek.
Kaitlyn meek faces complicity charges.
Police say the two allegedly got into a fight with Gayheart that led to his death.
Prestonsburg Police say Benjamin Meek and his wife Kaitlyn met Brian Jacob Gayheart in the Goble-Roberts community on May 1st. Police say the couple planned to rob him.
“It appears the motive for the robbery was drug-related,” Prestonsburg Police Chief Mike Ormerod said.
Investigators say the alleged robbery turned into murder.
“Apparently, there was some sort of scuffle and Mr. Gayheart ended up in the river,” Chief Ormerod said.
Police say his body floated more than 100 miles to where it was found in weeks later in the Big Sandy River in Boyd County.
The medical examiner has not released a cause of death yet, but the arrest citation says Gayheart was beaten before he died.
20 year old Benjamin Meek is charged with murder, robbery, assault, theft, and tampering with physical evidence.
He was already in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on unrelated DUI and assault charges.
21 year old Kaitlyn Crum Meek faces complicity charges and was arrested in Harlan County.
Police say Benjamin Meek will stay in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center for now. Kaitlyn Meek will be held in the Floyd County Detention Center.
No court dates are set yet for Benjamin and Kaitlyn Meek.
