Two people are in the hospital after their car went off a road Thursday evening in Hazard and landed in a parking lot.

Witnesses heard a loud boom.

"At first it sounded like a bomb had went off, the way the car crashed. Then when I came over, you couldn't even tell what kind of car it was," said Eddie Fields, who lives next door.

Fields said it was a scary sight.

"One was unconscious, and the other one was bleeding bad. Then they came and took them out. It was a bad scene," Fields said.

Officials said the two women were trapped in the car. Firefighters used the jaws of life to get them out. They were then flown to the hospital.

"One of the ladies said they were looking for the brake and all of a sudden, they went over the embankment," said David Wiseman, of the Hazard Police Department.

Police said this is the second accident that's happened in this same spot in the past few months.

"They go around a curve and think that it's going to straighten out, and it doesn't. The curve just gets sharper and sharper, and they lose control," said Wiseman.

Neighbors said they hope a guard rail will be put on Eversole Street.

Hazard Police have not released the names of the victims or the hospital to which they were taken.

They said one woman is still in intensive care and the other is expected to be released Friday.
