Two suspects in Ashland purse theft & attack arrested

Ashland Police say they have taken into custody the two people responsible for a strong-armed robbery outside the Ashland Children's Clinic on Monday.

The man and woman were arrested following a short foot pursuit on 13th Street. Police plan to release their names and the charges against them Tuesday afternoon.

Police tell our sister station the male suspect is also wanted out of Carter County for allegedly robbing a motel.

The incident happened about 4 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the clinic at 700 13th St.

A woman ran up and grabbed the victim's purse as she attempted to place the wheelchair on her vehicle. The victim and the woman assailant fell to the ground in a struggle over the purse.

A man then pulled on the purse, dragging the victim and taking her purse. Both the man and woman suspects fled the area.

The 64-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
