UK president won't ask for state funding for Rupp

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - University of Kentucky President Eli
Capilouto says he won't get involved in asking for state funding
for Rupp Arena because his priority is construction needs on
campus.

Capilouto says he can't support requests that compete with the
needs on campus. The university is preparing to build a new dorm in
the next year and has some $1 billion in construction needs on the
aging campus.

The Rupp Arena task force is considering replacing or renovating
Rupp Arena. A consultant is expected to make a final recommendation
in January. There has been little discussion about funding.

Officials from Mayor Jim Gray's office were not immediately
available for comment, the newspaper said.
