Severe weather looks likely on Saturday afternoon. The best chances appear to be between 2 p.m. Saturday and Midnight. Damaging winds, large hail, heavy rain, and an isolated tornado or two are possible. The area at the greatest risk for severe weather in eastern Kentucky is in the Cumberland Valley, near the I-75 corridor. Keep it locked here for updates.
WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. Senate has adopted a resolution recognizing the significant victory of the Americans in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812.
The resolution commemorates the bicentennial anniversary of the battle in which an American naval force commanded by Oliver H. Perry defeated the British on Sept. 10, 1813. The victory allowed Americans to retake control of Michigan and gave the United States the upper hand in the Northwest.
The Senate on Monday adopted the resolution that was offered by U.S. Sens. Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown, both from Ohio, and Pat Toomey from Pennsylvania.
Portman says he is pleased to see the Senate recognizing the heroism of those who fought the British off of Put-In-Bay and helped ensure that the U.S. remained independent.
