UVA-Wise football player kicked off team after Norton shooting

NORTON, Va. (WYMT/WJHL) - A UVA-Wise football player accused of shooting 18-year-old Jahnae Foster in the head is no longer on the team.

UVA-Wise spokeswoman Kathy Still told CBS affiliate WJHL 21-year old Melquan Huntley was dismissed from the football team Tuesday. Huntley has also been suspended from school pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings against him.

In a statement, Kathy Still said "A judicial proceeding was held Tuesday regarding Mr. Huntley. Dean of Students Jewell Worley has suspended Mr. Huntley on an interim basis pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings filed against him. Under terms of the interim suspension, Mr. Huntley is not allowed on campus. We continue to ask everyone to keep Ms. Foster and her family in their thoughts and prayers during these difficult days."

Huntley is charged with unlawful shooting of a person in the commission of a felony and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
