BARBOURVILLE, Ky (WYMT) - Union College is getting a big gift that will not only benefit the school but also the community.

Thursday, US Representative Hal Rogers announced the college will get one and a half million dollars.

The money will go to renovate the School of Nursing's building.

Lorene Todd Putnam is the dean of that program and said the facility will include the newest technology available, which will allow students to be better trained to enter the job market close to home.

"To have brand new beds, we did not get kind of hand me down things that were out of service someplace else, we have brand new, state of the art," said Putnam.

Renovations are expected to be complete by late October.

The city of West Liberty also received half a million dollars for the construction of parking lots and walkways downtown.
