Searching for Louisville Cardinals in the middle of Wildcat country may be a little difficult.

"A lot of people ask me why would you drive four hours away from home, right past Morehead, right past EKU, right past UK, to another university," said Max Morley, a sophomore at the University of Louisville.

The University of Louisville is making strides to recruit students from Eastern Kentucky like Morley, so they can continue their education and stay in school.

"One of the issues we face in Kentucky is an undereducated population, not enough people with baccalaureate and college degrees," said Dr. Jim Ramsey, University of Louisville President.

Ramsey and other administrators spent the afternoon Monday with seniors at Pikeville High School.

Ramsey said students in Kentucky need to understand that a college education is more important now than ever, especially in a tough economy.

"It will pay dividends to individuals throughout their whole life. One way we talk about that is talking about the changing economy and how the jobs of today are very different than the jobs of yesterday," said Ramsey.

For students like Max Morley, coming back to talk about his college experience thus far gives him a chance to encourage other students to pursue their own education.

"I want to share with everyone. I want to encourage people to go to college because they see, I'm not that different than you. I'm from Eastern Kentucky just like you are, and I left and went to college," said Morley.

Morley said he usually comes back a few times each year to recruit prospective students with university administrators.
