LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - University of Louisville President James
Ramsey says it's a "stark reality" that public college costs have
shifted from taxpayers to students.
Ramsey will propose a tuition increase of 6 percent for next
academic year, according to The Courier-Journal. If approved by the
university board and the Council on Postsecondary Education,
tuition for undergraduate students for the 2011-2012 school year
would be $8,930. The amount does not include housing, meals or
Ramsey says a tuition increase is needed because of cost
increases for healthcare and utilities. He also said faculty and
staff raises are needed. There have been none for three years
because of state funding cuts.
