LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Employees of Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities have pledged more than $1.6 million to assist 27 charities across the state.
The companies said in a statement that it is the fifth year in a row that employees have raised more than $1 million to assist nonprofit agencies that help Kentucky families.
Chip Keeling, who is a spokesman for LG&E and KU and co-chaired the campaign, says almost 70 percent of employees participated in the effort, which will be especially helpful for charity organizations that have seen hampered fundraising during the sluggish economy.
