Veterans honored in Pike County

Updated: Thu 7:46 PM, Nov 10, 2011

Veterans were honored one day early in Pikeville.

A day of events began with parade through downtown.

After an air force flyover and 21 gun salute, the ceremony moved to the Expo Center for the main event.

Hundreds of people, which included school children and veterans of all ages, came to the Expo Center for "A Tribute to Veterans and First Responders" hosted by Pikeville Medical Center and the county.

The event featured several speakers including highly decorated Pike County native Raymond Setser, a retired nuclear submarine commander.

The ceremony was somber at times, as those veterans no longer with us were also recognized.

A big highlight for many was singer Lee Greenwood, who performed a concert and sang his signature song.

You can see more of the ceremony Friday night at 7pm and Monday at 7:30pm on WYMT.

Veteran's Day is also Armistice Day, or Remembrance Day which marks the anniversary of the end of World War I on November 11th, 1918.
