PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - 7/4/13 6:00 p.m.

A traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall made its way into Pikeville just in time for July 4th.

Organizers set the wall up Wednesday and held an opening ceremony Thursday morning.

Dozens of people attended the opening ceremony.

Organizers say what makes the wall so special is it gives people who may not be able to travel to Washington, D.C., the chance to see the memorial.

Songs, salutes and somber moments were all part of the opening ceremony for the Vietnam Traveling Wall.

It is a replica of the monument in Washington, D.C, traveling the country to give veterans and patriots the chance to show their respects for the more than 58,000 who died during that war.

"Today is a day of celebration, but not without remembrance and honoring of those who served and bled on the battlefields making today possible," said Pikeville City Manager Donovan Blackburn.

It is a sight that brings tears to the eyes of many, but comfort to their hearts as they pay tribute to their fallen friends.

"What's on that wall is more than names. There's memories. Memories of a time you'd like to forget," said Vietnam Veteran Lloyd Holland

Memories of friends and family who paid the greatest sacrifice.

The wall will be at Bob Amos Park in Pikeville through July 7.

It is open from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. each day.

Folks across the region now have a chance to see a replica of the Vietnam Memorial.

The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall is set up at Bob Amos Park in Pikeville.

The wall is a 3/5 scale replica of the Vietnam Wall.

It has more than 58,000 names of all the war dead.

The wall travels throughout the country between May and November.

"It gives people an opportunity that cannot go to Washington for either health reasons or other, it gives them an opportunity to see the wall without having to go to Washington," said Wall Manager Greg Welsh.

The wall will be in Pikeville through July 7.

An opening ceremony is Thursday at 9:00 a.m.
