WISE, Va (WYMT) - Monday may be the last day viewers in Wise and Lee County, Virginia are able to watch WYMT-TV.
Comcast notified WYMT back in late February that it would be dropping the station on its Norton, Virginia cable system.
We have received several phone calls and emails from people in that area who say they do not want to see that happen.
Marvin Jones lives in Pennington Gap, VA and says he watches WYMT for the sports.
"I always tune in for the news and the ball games, and anything that's got to do with sports," said Jones.
Jones says when he found out, he dropped Comcast and switched to a satellite company.
"If you can't carry my station, I can't carry you," he said.
Larry Baker, who lives in Wise, VA, says he watches for the weather coverage.
"Anytime we have a tornado or bad weather we turn over to the WYMT-TV for the tornado coverage, it can save lives," said Baker.
Comcast officials say right now their Norton, Virginia cable system already carries three CBS affiliates, so they are dropping WYMT because they say much of the programming is the same.
"Well we shouldn't be getting rid of this one. This is the closet one to us," said Baker.
Russell Byrd with Comcast says they currently carry a CBS affiliate out of Kingsport and Roanoke, and that as of Tuesday they will no longer carry WYMT.
Many people we talked to enjoy the extra SEC games carried during the week on WYMT, but Comcast officials say they carry CSS and a variety of other sports channels.
If you would like to keep WYMT, you can call Comcast at (800) 266-2278 and request they do not drop Mountain News from the lineup.
