Visitation held for Pike Co. teen and mother

HAROLD, Ky (WYMT) - Her mother says she was a light to everyone around her. A visitation for 18 year old Alexandrea "Payge" Tipton was held today in Harold.

Tipton died Friday when the Ford Mustang in which she and seven others were riding crashed into an embankment.

The driver, 18 year old Jonathan Newsome was also killed. No one in the car was wearing a seatbelt and police believe alcohol was involved.

Family and friends say an accident like this is just not supposed to happen to someone so young.

“This is the hardest thing I’ve ever been through in my life.” Payge’s friend Ashley Gillespie said

Through tears, family and friends shared their memories of Alexandrea Tipton, who went by Payge.
She was a recent graduate of Betsy Layne High School. Her classmates made Payge's family a quilt in her honor.

Payge’s mother Sherry Johnson said, “She was involved in so much, Payge had a beautiful life, 4H, cheerleading, majorettes and dance.”

We are told she was also active in her church ... And was set to begin classes in the fall at Big Sandy Community and Technical College.

“She was so beautiful, so full of life, she had her whole life planned out for her,” said Gillespie.

She was described as a loving mother. She leaves behind a son 2 year old Billy.

Payge’s stepmother Tracey Tipton said, “Why did they pick the mom? Why did God pick the mom out of the car? You know it’s just a senseless act.”

More questions than answers remain, but Payge's mother Sherry says she believes God has a plan for her daughter. “She lived a wonderful full life here with love, and that God has a bigger even fuller life for her, that is why I think she was taken.”

Though Payge's son will grow up without his mother, Payge's family says they will make sure he knows of the energy and enthusiasm she shared with everyone she met.

Tipton’s funeral is set for 2pm Tuesday at Upper Toler Church in Harold.
