CLAY Co., Ky. (WYMT) - Volunteers said a lot of preparation went into today's back to school bash in downtown Manchester at 5 p.m.
Thanks to local businesses and one corporate grant from Walmart officials say they were able to raise close to $10,000 for this years event.
Binders, paper, markers and basic school needs are just a few items provided by the free event.
Jamie Campbell is one of the organizers
Campbell said this event helps kids get a better start and lets children know the community cares about their education.
"We came up with the idea to help our students get a better start for the new school year," said Campbell. "We started organizing, met with the board of education, contacted local vendors, partners in the community, churches and other organizations."
Campbell said they are expecting more than 1,000 students to attend.
