Voters could soon impose a 1% sales tax on communities

Frankfort, Kentucky - Voters could soon choose to impose a 1% sales tax on their communities to pay for special projects under a bill approved by a house committee.

The Bill would change the state constitution to give voters the option of approving a temporary 1% sales tax.

The revenue could only be used for specific projects. The tax would then expire once the projects are completed.

Although it got approval, the bill divided house democrats, with Speaker Greg Stumbo opposed and Majority Whip Tommy Thompson supporting it.
