WKU regents approve budget for coming school year

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Western Kentucky University regents have approved a budget for the next school year that includes a 3 percent tuition increase for in-state undergraduates.

Under the plan approved Friday, in-state undergraduate tuition will increase $250 per year to $8,582.

WKU President Gary Ransdell says it's the lowest tuition increase in 16 years on the Bowling Green campus.

The school says tuition and fees are expected to provide 46 percent of funding, while state appropriations will provide 18.4 percent.

Western's chief financial officer, Ann Mead, says the nearly $394 million budget amounts to a 1.4 percent increase.

Ransdell says the budget protects campus jobs and salaries, and employees will not have an increase in their health insurance premiums.
