CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A judge had ordered a Logan, West Virginia man arrested one week before police say he killed two men.
State police shot and killed John Edward Dempsey on Thursday after he killed the two during break-ins at their homes.
The killings occurred while the 37-year-old Dempsey was free on $10,000 bail as he awaited sentencing for a burglary conviction.
The Charleston Gazette (http://bit.ly/ZTMKPj) reports he had failed a required drug screening and Circuit Judge Eric H. O'Briant had issued a warrant for his arrest on Jan. 3.
The Gazette reports police were not actively looking for Dempsey until he became a suspect in connection with one of the killings.
Dempsey was killed near man after he carjacked a vehicle and led troopers on a chase.
