Wallet thief caught on tape in Perry County

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - A Perry County woman is trying to find the person who took her wallet.

Surveillance video from November 6 appears to show a woman stealing a wallet left near the register of the Dollar General store in the Airport Gardens community.

The wallet belongs to Brenda Couch, who forgot it after paying for some items.

"I paid for my stuff, laid my billfold out on the counter, put my debit card right back in my billfold and left it laying and walked out and left it," Couch said.

Couch realized her wallet was missing about 15 minutes after leaving the store when she went next door to Save-A-Lot to buy some groceries, she said.

So Couch went back to Dollar General, only to find her wallet was gone.

"She could have just as easily picked it up, what I would have done, pick it up and give it to the clerk and said somebody left their wallet," Couch said.

Couch lost around 400 dollars and had to cancel her debit card.

"It's just really frustrating to have to worry about it," she said. "You can't sleep. I have trouble sleeping because it's just on my mind. You can't get that off."

The woman who appears to take the wallet was not able to use Couch's debit card before it was cancelled.

Couch also lost her driver's license, social security card and some other forms of identification.

If her wallet and money are returned, she probably will not press charges.
