Eastern Ky. enjoys an early dose of spring weather

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - Whether it was hiking, fishing, picnicking, or just taking in some fresh air, folks were out across the region on Sunday enjoying warm temperatures.

Across the region folks have caught a case of spring fever thanks to a weekend filled with sunshine and warm temperatures. Wayne Pennington says, "Hopefully it will get real hot and stay that way."

Glenda Stewart enjoys walking her dog at Jenny Wiley State Park, "This weekend has been so much fun because we have been able to get out with out the chill."

Supervisors at the Jenny Wiley State Park say this weather lets them know their busiest time of the year is just around the corner. Rodney Gardner explains, "We are making sure we've got all our facilities up to standard and we are just glad to see people back out."

Folks say they love spending the spring season at the park, "The spring is beautiful over here when the flowers start to bloom and we just really enjoy being out in the fresh air," says Stewart.

Another big attraction to the park is Dewey Lake. Folks who enjoy being out on the water say they happily welcome the warm temperatures and sunshine. Pennington explains, "It is pretty today and we figured we would come out and check out our boat."

Pennington says folks who spend their spring and summer seasons on the lake are like family so it is good to see everybody coming back out and moving in for the warm weather ahead. "It will drag them all out, especially after today, they all will start coming out," says Pennington.

For those of you who are counting, spring does not officially begin until March 20th.
