West Virginia State Police unveil new website

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia State Police has launched a new website to help citizens find information on crime, report offenses and track registered sex offenders.

State Police Superintendent Col. Jay Smithers says the enhanced features expand the agency's ability to inform, educate and notify citizens of missing persons and dangerous situations.

The improved sex offender registry allows users to search for offenders by last name, street, city, county, email address or username. The search also can be narrowed to wanted sex offenders or those considered violent predators.

Citizens also can request criminal record checks.

The website can be found at http://www.statepolice.wv.gov . It was developed by the West Virginia State Police in partnership with WV.gov.
