West Virginia doctor enters guilty plea in drug prescription case

A doctor with Eastern Kentucky ties has pleaded guilty to improperly prescribing drugs in West Virginia.

The Lexington Herald Leader reports 60 year old Diane Shafer admitted she left signed prescriptions at her Williamson office so that her employees could distribute them for cash payments for people she had not examined that day.

Officials say between 2003 and 2010, Shafer wrote more than 118-thousand prescriptions for painkillers and Xanax.
