A grocery store in Whitesburg is the first business to apply for a license to sell packaged alcohol.

The Mountain Eagle reports Food City took that step this week.

People in Whitesburg voted more than 2-1 to allow packaged alcohol sales in the city.

The city is expected to qualify for two packaged stores.

They will be able to sell liquor, wine, and beer.
