WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) Friday night, two men at a Whitley County home had an unwelcome visitor.

Police say Lonnie Paul, 67, was trying to break into a home on Highway 92.

"When he went to the door they wouldn't let him in," said Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell, "And he started beating on the door and of course tore the screen. Then he moved on down to the window."

While attempting to break into the window, police say Paul was waving around a knife inside the home.

It was then that one of the men took matters into his own hands.

"Jordan Lawson procured his shotgun and of course he called 911 and we responded," said Harrell.

When officials arrived at the home, the homeowner's son was holding the intruder at gunpoint, trying to protect a 2 year old child inside the home.

Police say Paul then admitted that he had been drinking moonshine all day and did not know why he was trying to break into the home.

Paul is in the Whitley County Detention Center, facing menacing, terroristic threatening, burglary, alcohol intoxication, and other charges.
