A man is in jail after police say he tried to break into his ex-girlfriends home and then assaulted a man with brass knuckles.
It happened in Williamsburg early Tuesday morning, but the alleged burglar says he was not trying to break in to the home.
David Goodin says he went to Delores Bray's home, his former girlfriend, because he was mad.
"I shoved a window or air conditioner in," said David Goodin from jail.
Bray says she heard the noise and then pushed the air conditioner unit back outside and closed the window so Goodin could not get inside.
"From our understanding Mr. Vanover (Bray's current boyfriend) was armed with a handgun. And from our understanding he decided to lay the gun down and go outside and confront the perpetrator," said Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird.
When Robert Vanover went outside, police say Goodin hit him in the face with a pair of brass knuckles.
"We just got in a fight, and I don't remember a whole lot of it," said Goodin.
Goodin could not say from jail why he had the pair of brass knuckles on or exactly what happened, but he did admit he did something wrong.
David Goodin is charged with burglary, criminal mischief and and second degree assault.
The case will be presented to the grand jury in June.
